Project Summary
Building Virtual Worlds (BVW) is a project course where interdisciplinary teams build immersive interactive virtual worlds. Teams work intensively together for two weeks, with the teams changing with each new project. Over the semester, we worked on five projects, culminating in a public demonstration to a crowd of over 500, including students and faculty from Carnegie Mellon, as well as invited entertainment industry leaders.
Game Play
This BVW project was made to raise awareness for the situation still going on in Darfur. We told the story of a family ripped apart by violence, all from the perspective of the youngest of the family, a 6-year-old boy. We researched and tried to understand the situation that a child would be in, and framed the look and feel of the village based on that research. We found local refugees and interviewed them, as well as asked them to serve as voice talent for the authentic dialect and vocabulary.
